mauritius The climate of Mauritius is great the all year. The periods between April and July and September-October are most enjoyable. Then it rains least and the temperatures are not so high. Who does not want to miss the unforgettable and picturesque “color” season on the island, should visit Mauritius during the summer. At that time the island became a fairy garden – not only for flowers but for the exotic flowering trees. In summer the water in the lagoons of the island is simply superb. In addition to the island you can eat pineapples, bananas, mangoes, papaya. mauritius
The underwater world of Mauritius is very rich and you can enjoy it while snorkeling in crystal clear waters. The island’s population is a colorful mix of races, cultures and religions. People of African, Indian, European and Chinese descent live in harmony on this tiny island. Perhaps their mixed blood and warm climate make them always smiling and friendly. Holidays in Mauritius are very different – just like its inhabitants. All visitors are welcome to the fiestas. The official language there is English, but French is used a lot. So if you know any of these languages you will not have any problems. There is a dance called “Now”. The songs “now” are liked by all and the dance are saturated with eroticism. Most hotels on the island offer lessons in “now” which are taking place around the fire on the beach. The experience is really exciting and should not be missed! The beaches of Mauritius are heavenly beautiful – white sand and incredible water. Alone you can select one of the most famous and beloved tourist sites. For example, the bay “Tamarino” is placed at the mouth of the eponymous river and offers incredible scenery and excellent conditions for surfing, because there are formed tidal waves throughout the year. mauritius
On the beach “Tombyu” grow many coconut palms. Belle Mare and the Blue Beach are also among the favorite places of the holidaymakers. They will rejoice you with clean water and gorgeous sand. There you can not only sunshine and swim, but surfing or snorkeling. But, if beaches are not on your taste, the fishing village of Cap Malereks will offer you the opportunity to fish and enjoy the beautiful views. Grand Bay (Big beach) is the tourist center of the island. There are the best hotels, shops and restaurants. Grand Bay offers the largest selection of bars and discos. Trox beach is best if you’re on holiday with children as the water there is not so deep. This beach is very convenient for divers, especially for beginners.
None biosphere on earth is not so rich in life and colors of coral reefs. In Mauritius you can enjoy this natural wonder even without snorkeling, because to the reef there is a little distance. Most hotels on the island offers many opportunities for fun – boat excursions, water skiing, windsurfing and many others. You can hire a boat or yacht and have fun again. Friday and Saturday night is the best time for nightlife on the island. If you want, you can try your luck at a casino in Mauritius. The atmosphere is memorable and hard to describe. Restaurants there offer a variety of dishes. You can eat as local specialties and French, Creole, Indian, and Chinese cuisine. mauritius
he choice of restaurants is also rich – from small roadside restaurants to elegant and expensive restaurants. So if you are looking for your paradise, where to put aside daily concerns and problems and to indulge in relaxation and pleasure, Mauritius is the best solution to your problem.

 Mauritius Island Guide
Heir to the secrets of three continents, the island is a real treasure, gathered into one unusual mix of many races, cultures and customs. Mauritius is a promise of an unforgettable holiday. Not accidentally the island has long been identified as one of the most romantic in the world, a favorite place for weddings and honeymoons. Mauritius is situated in the Indian Ocean, particularly in the southwestern area, about 800 km from Madagascar. The capital is Port Louis. Like all his tropical brothers and sisters, the origin is volcanic, it has magnificent reefs, lagoons and beaches, clear waters, varied terrain… The only difference is that Mauritius is one degree more beautiful, more perfect, more unearthly. Biblical sense of harmony is enhanced by the peaceful coexistence of heterogeneous population of one million – people with European, Creole, Indian, Chinese and African origins live in peace and understanding and most beautiful of their crops flourish under the bright sun. Proof of this is a Chinese pagoda, mosque, cathedral and the Hindu temple of Lord Shiva.
 Tropical Heaven
Hotel complexes in the island are perfect for a romantic holiday lovers seeking solitude, harmony and beauty.
 Romantic nights
Vibrant and dynamic cities alternate with deserted coves and transparent waters with giant tortoises. Inside the islands are scattered natural and architectural treasures. Fans of golf, diving and fishing will be not disappointed. If you prefer relaxing on the beach, I recommend the soft white sand, which will fascinate you.

Mauritian cuisine is a mixture of Creole, Chinese, African, Indian and European, a mix of cuisine and also of culture, so eating will be a real adventure, so if you are the adventurous type, it is a must to try the local cuisine! Try the Creole Curry but be aware, that despite of being spicy, it is very hot! There is also curry made with beef, chicken or fish, served with white rice.
Try the briani, a very spicy typical muslim menu. Of course there is the European cuisine dominated by the traditional French dishes and British cuisine and tea. For something less expensive, try Beef Black beans or Fried Rice, or something else from the Chinese cuisine. There are also Langouste à la Creole, Curry de Cerf, Rougaille Poisson Salé and Daube de Poisson, and some other Mauritian cuisines.

Not only for the eyes with its beautiful landscape, but also for the palate, Mauritius is a paradise for the senses. A variety of aromas and flavours inherited from the different migrations through its history gastronomes will. Culinary traditions from the worlds most appreciated and best-known cuisines like India, China, Africa and France have been passed on through generations. A variety of flat bread called chapattis or roti, called paratha (farata) by the local people or rice, is eaten with curries.
Herbs like basil, curry and thyme and spices like cinnamon, saffron, cardamom, and cloves leaves are extensively used and are the common ingredients that provide some powerful, yet subtle, savour. Originally an Indian delicacy, roti and Pholl puri, have become the fish and chips of Mauritians. A variety of lentil soup, called Dal are many and varied according to which type of lentil is used, with accompaniment of beans, vegetables and pickles in the dishes.

On the Mauritian Food Festival at Cilanto you can try French, Chinese, Portugese and Mauritian Creole cuisine. Your senses will be pleased, but you wouldn’t be able to try (or see) a Dodo, no matter how lucky you are!! A sort of pancake, served with chutney (tomato sauce) hot beans curry and chilly ( the Mauritian like to eat a lot of chilli and almost all the food is spicy and hot), named dholl pourri and roti can be found on every Mauritian street. Also, try some of Mauritian snacks like gateaux bringelles, gateaux piments, batons fromages, samoussas and gateaux pomme de terre.
Taste some seafood, howsoever Mauritius is surrounded with the sea. They make great shrimps, fish, pawn and oysters with “sauce rouge” (red sauce). If you want to have a snack when you are leaving Mauritius, don’t wait until you go through passport control. The snack bar before check-in is value for money in contrast to the coffee shop after passport control. I know you are now feeling hungry!

At some time in the 9th century (the exact date is unknown), Arab sailors discovered the island of Mauritius. The island was uninhabited and covered in a dense forest at that time. They named the island Dinarobin or Dina Arobi, but were not interested in settling there, so in 1505 Portuguese sailor which did not settle permenantly on the island either found the island and named it Cerne.
Then the Dutch colonized the island in 1598 after they landed on a bay in the south-eastern part of the island (on a bay now known as Grand Port) which was named Warwyck Haven after the commander Van Warwyck. The island was named Mauritius after the Prince of Holland Mauritz de Nassau.
The Dutch abandoned the island in 1710 leaving behind the java deer, macaques, sugar cane and fugitive slaves. But they made an irreversible damage to theindigenous and endemic flora and fauna of the island. The once abundant black ebony tree population was almost completely depleted due to over-exploitation for its timber and that caused the easy capturing, hunting and extinction of the Raphus cucullatus, or the Dodo bird.
The Dodo was flightless bird weighing about 20 kg (44 lb) and meter (3.3 feet) tall only found in the island of Mauritius. It eated fruit and nested on the ground. The Dodo is commonly used as the archetype of an extinct species because its extinction occurred during recorded human history and was directly attributable to human activity.

Then, in 1713, the French settled on the island, on the same bay. Renamed the island Ile de France, and the bay – the bay Port Bourbon. After that the French established on the north-western part of the island their main harbour and today’s capital of Mauritius – Port Louis. During the French rule there was a lot of progress in the country. Mahé de Labourdonnais who is known as the founder of the capital city has a statue which can be seen across from the harbour in Port louis and his governance is responsible for the prosperity in the country.
The British tried to take over the island in August 1810 – the famous Battle of Grand Port. But they lost and that was the only victory of the French over the British. However the British corrected their error in December, the island remained under British rule until it attained independence and was renamed Mauritius.
The British abolished slavery in 1835, most of the African slaves abandoned the agricultural fields and moved to small villages and the growing sugar-cane industry was filled with Coolies (indentured labourers), who were brought from India.
The “Father of the Nation”, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam led the island to independence (March 12 1968) and did a lot to develop the country. Then Mauritius became a parliamentary republic, with one of Africa’s highest per capita incomes, a stable democracy with regular free elections and a positive human rights record. And also a great tourist destination!

In a single cup of tea you can feel the sensuous aromas enveiling the flavours of Mauritius. Tea leaves light up as night gives way to the first rays of dawn and they are still peppered with droplets of dew. Rustling of leaves breaks the silence Hundreds of women with huge wicker baskets on their backs gently pick handfuls of buds.
In Mauritius tea has been introduced around 1765, during the French colonization. Nowadays there are six active estates cultivating tea on the island with two private companies and four factories operated by Mauritius Tea Company. Maybe this is something that have been left from the British colony, but for the Mauritian the tea time in the afternoon is very important, they can’t miss it!

From the tea factory and the tea plantation to the tea tasting, the Mauritius island offers an open invitation for visitours and tourists to discover the secrets and the history of its famous Mauritian tea. In South Mauritius the Bois Cheri hills have hundreds of acres of tea plantations. Women start picking the leaves at dawn during the harvest, but they only remove the first 2-3 leaves on the stems. After that the tea is first dried and wilted for two days in the manufacture where it is transported when gatgered.
Then for an hour and a half the tea ferments at room temperature and is stabilized for 10 minutes by heating at 110°C. Then workers sort the tea leaves according to their calibre. After that, for a whole month the tea macerates. Finally, they flavour by adding some essential oils giving it the particular flavour of Mauritian tea with vanilla.
Mauritian tea is exclusive, because the tea plants are not cultivated on large surfaces, so the production is not enough to export in large quantity, but it’s enough for the local market and some tea is exclusively exported. For example Corson produces mainly for local market and Bois Cheri is for both local and exportation market.
Once you taste it, it is difficult not to become an addict!
